Willie Cooke Obituary
Mr. Willie J. Cooke, affectionately known as "Sonny," earned his heavenly wings on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, SC. Born on January 6, 1948, Sonny was a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His vibrant spirit, sharp humor, and unwavering honesty left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. Sonny was a man of great strength and character who never hesitated to stand up for his beliefs.
A skilled brick mason by trade, Sonny took immense pride in his craft. Self-employed throughout his life, he approached his work with dedication and excellence, earning the respect and admiration of all who witnessed his expertise.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Odell Cooke Sr. and Fannie Mae Cooke; his brother, Odell Cooke Jr.; and his sister, Meredith Cooke.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ella Mae Cooke of Cross Hill, SC; his son, Pjobori (Bertha) Cooke of Clinton, SC; and his daughters, Temekia (Tony) Cooke of Cross Hill, SC, and Amy (Darlington Jr.) Briggs of Clinton, SC. Sonny also leaves behind two grandsons, Jobori Cooke of Atlanta, GA, and Dane Hansel of Wisconsin; his sister, Lucille Foggie of Waterloo, SC; two sisters-in-law, Willie Pearl Cook and Sophie Richardson; and a host of extended family and friends. His special friends, Clyde Richards , JD Cunningham, and Henry Dendy, will also deeply miss him.
Services for Mr. Willie "Sonny" Cooke will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Cross Hill, SC. Reverend Earnest Rice Jr., pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, will deliver the eulogy.
Visitation will take place at the Floyd Family Funeral Home chapel on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The family will receive visitors at their home, located at 1195 Lonesome Dove Road, Cross Hill, SC.
The Floyd Family Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cooke family during this time.
