Sylvia Carpenter Pulley Obituary
On Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, Sylvia Enita Carpenter Pulley, affectionately known as "Sip," peacefully passed away at the age of seventy-three at her daughter’s home in Laurens, SC. She was born in Laurens County to the late Ada Thompson Carpenter and Arthur “Short Dog” Anderson.
A lifelong resident of Laurens, Sip was known for her warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. She attended public schools and graduated from Sanders High School with the class of 1969. She went on to build a successful career at Kemet Electronics, where she worked diligently for nearly forty years before her health declined.
Sip’s roots were deeply planted in the Jersey Community, where she was raised by her grandparents, Marie and Condee Thompson, with guidance from her great-aunt, Irene Stroud Martin. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. She served in numerous roles, including singing in the Young Adult Choir, working as a trustee, and actively participating in the Outreach Team, always extending a helping hand to those in need.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Sandra Allen, Yetta Allen, Deborah Allen, and Cody Thompson.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her husband, Gettis Pulley; her children, Xavier Pulley and Tiyonna Pulley of Laurens; her brother, Anthony Carpenter of Laurens; her sisters, Barbara Allen and Audrey Thrower of Laurens; and her stepdaughter, Sherrill (Toby) Miller of Anderson, SC. She also leaves behind three adored grandchildren, Keymaya Pulley of Simpsonville, SC, Xamia Pulley of Gray Court, SC, and Skylar Pulley of Mauldin, SC, who brought her immense joy.
Additionally, she is survived by her aunts, Ethel Holland of Greenville, SC, and Deloris Todd of Laurens, SC; her sisters-in-law, Rosa Harris and Reza Pulley of Laurens; and a special niece, Kimberly Allen of the home. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including Lydia McErath, Gwendolyn Moore, and Sharon Shands, will forever treasure her presence in their lives.
Sip’s kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
