In Loving Memory of Russell Joseph Mackrill January 24, 1961 – April 18, 2025

Russell Joseph Mackrill, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 18, 2025, when his heart stopped, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, music, and unwavering faith. Born in Atlantic, Iowa on January 24, 1961, to Carol Jean Mackrill (Peterson) and Robert Jackson Mackrill, both of whom preceded him in death, Russ’s life was one of deep devotion and rich relationships.

Raised in California, Russ was a true "Cali boy" through and through, no matter where life took him. He gave all his friends the nickname “Sunny Boy,” a reflection of the warmth and affection he carried for those around him. Though he lived in many places, home was always where his heart and family were.

Russ had a deep love for the ocean—something that seemed destined, given his last name “Mackrill,” like the fish. He found peace and joy by the water, and it was one of the many places where his spirit felt most alive. He was also a passionate backpacker who shared the wilderness with others, leading countless trips that left lasting memories. Whether it was exploring the coast or the mountains, Russ was always up for an adventure. His love for physical work and helping others extended to his tireless support of Kingdom Hall builds and numerous volunteer projects. He was truly the hardest working man—never afraid to get his hands dirty, and always the first to lend a hand.

Russ was preceded in death by many loved ones, too numerous to name, but especially by his nephew Mark Mackrill and best friend Jerry Wall—losses that forever changed him, just as we are now changed by his passing.

He is survived by his one true love and devoted wife, Tina Mackrill (Heule) aka T-Babe; his children Shelby Mackrill aka Pumpkin head, Sidney Lahr (Mackrill) aka boo boo, and Colton Mackrill aka Champ; son-in-law Travis Lahr and daughter-in-law Brittany Mackrill (White); and his cherished grandchildren Keiden Walker, Theodore Russell Bolibaugh, Tytus Joseph Lahr, Tuck Lahr, and Aurora Lahr.

Also surviving him is his brother Robert Mackrill and his niece and nephews, as well as countless friends, spiritual brothers and sisters, and all those whose lives were touched by his kindness, humor, and strength.

To know Russ was to love him. A gifted musician, many remember him with a guitar in hand, sharing songs straight from the soul. Others will never forget his legendary cooking—especially his famously spicy salsa—reflecting the fiery zest he brought to life.
An artist, a mentor, and above all, a faithful servant of Jehovah God, Russ lived by clear priorities: Jehovah first, his beloved wife second, and his children third. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he never hesitated to share it with those around him.

Russ leaves behind a world made brighter by his presence, and though he is no longer with us in body, his love, his music, and his faith live on in every life he touched.
