Lawrence Alphonzo Greene was born in Laurens, South Carolina on October 19, 1952 and passed away at his residence in Greenwood, South Carolina on October 4, 2022. He was fondly known by his family and friends as "Yogi" or "Shorty".
Lawrence was the son of the late Edward and Dorothy Greene. Preceding in his death, in addition to his parents, were his siblings: Victor Greene, Ozella Greene Stoughton, Cardell Greene, Edward Greene, and Eddie Greene.
Lawrence graduated from Howard High School in Wilmington, Delaware. After relocating back to South Carolina, he pursued various careers ending with his employment with the Greenwood County Health Department. Throughout his life, Lawrence enjoyed many passions, including tickering with vehicles, playing baseball and fishing. He loved life and was a protector of his family and friends.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory three children, Lawrence Gilbert of Greenville, SC, Lari Gilbert of Gastonia, NC, and Kimberly Greene of Greenwood, SC; three brothers, Johney Greene (Virginia) of Charlotte, NC, Gregory Greene of Columbia, SC, and Joseph Greene of Laurens, SC; four sisters, Lenda Greene of Laurens, SC, Cynthia Dollard of Columbia, SC, Wanda Greene of Laurens, SC, and Rhonda Greene of Fayetteville, NC; four grandchildren, Jeremiah and Jalen Greene of Greenwood S.C., Gianna Gilbert of Baltimore, Maryland, and Mia Gilbert of Greenville, S.C., special friends, Carolyn Ervin and Annie Childs of Greenwood, SC; a host of nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends.
Floyd Family Funeral Home is responsible for all arrangements. The family will take visitors at 1214 Chestnut Street Extension, Laurens SC 29360. Visitation will be Friday, October 7, 2022 at the Floyd Family Funeral Home chapel from 11am -5pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church beginning at 12pm, and the interment will immediately follow at the Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
