January 8th - August 30th, 2025
Ms. Jessie Mae Foggie was born on January 8, 1937, in Laurens County, South Carolina, and lived to be 88 years old. Though she lost her biological father, Oliver Foggie, early in life, she was lovingly raised by her devoted mother, Elizabeth Ferguson Burnside, and her stepfather, Hurley Burnside, who embraced Jessie as his own daughter.
From a young age, Jessie’s faith was a guiding light. She first joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church and later became a dedicated member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Laurens, SC, where she continued to nurture her spiritual life.
A proud graduate of Sanders High School in Laurens, Jessie entered the workforce with determination and grace. She spent many years in the manufacturing industry, earning the admiration and affection of her coworkers, who knew her as both hardworking and kindhearted.
On Saturday, August 30, 2025, Jessie peacefully departed this life at Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital in Clinton, SC, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Scott Edward Foggie; two sisters, Corrie Bell Madden and Elizabeth Ann Holland; and three brothers, R.B. Burnside, Johnnie Burnside, and David “Jack” Lewis Burnside.
Jessie’s memory lives on through her cherished sister, Rosemary Burnside Mackie of North Augusta, SC; sister-in-law, Yueh-Li “Sue” Burnside of Milpitas, CA; her grandson, Terezz Foggie; and her great-grandson, Quatrezz Foggie of Gray Court, SC. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will continue to celebrate her life and spirit.
Among those closest to her was her devoted niece, Rosa Madden, who lovingly cared for Jessie in her final years. She also shared a lifelong bond filled with joy and laughter with her treasured friends, Lydia “Knot” McElrath and Lana Martin, and was blessed with the kindness of her good neighbor, Betty Powers.
Jessie Mae Foggie’s life was a testament to grace, strength, and compassion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A memorial service for Ms. Jessie M. Foggie will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 12 o’clock noon in the Floyd Family Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Larry Chapman, pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, will deliver the eulogy.
